ICS : Turbo Codes and Iterative Decoding: Principles and Practice

A basic introduction to the fundamentals of turbo codes and iterative decoding. Review principles of convolutional coding, emphasizing encoder realizations, trellis diagrams, and performance analysis assuming maximum decoding. Gain knowledge of encoder and decoder structures of turbo codes. Extend your understanding of performance analysis of convolutional codes to turbo codes, leading to several practical design rules. Learn 3GPP and CSDS turbo coding standards. Grasp advanced concepts with a brief introduction to channel codes and capacity and analysis and design of turbo codes using EXIT analysis techniques, followed by analysis and design of serially concatenated turbo codes. Understand the principles of low-density parity check codes and their iterative decoding, including density analysis. Learn to appreciate extensions of coding techniques to such other areas as coded modulation. Delivered by Christian Schlegel, University of Alberta. To view course syllabus, click here.
