Want to Know More?
Most professionals who consider online learning as an alternative to conventional classroom education, wonder whether they are good candidates. It's not surprising that you may have some hesitation, even though more than 3 million are now taking online courses in the US and Canada. It is still a relatively new approach--one that may raise questions in your mind.

How to Achieve Success Online
If you are a professional seeking to increase your skills, you have already made the first step towards achieving success online.Choose from among these online programs-

What Is a "Class"?
While some may run longer, most e-Seminar online courses take approximately one or two weeks to complete. Commonly, online instructors mount their lecture notes, requirements, problems, objectives, readings, among other written materials, at the beginning of each course for you to access when you logon. You access your class online, whenever it is convenient for you--before work, during your lunchbreak, in the middle of the night--whenever and wherever it suits you. Your class never "meets" at a set time of the day or day of the week. After you register for a class, you receive instructions on how to enter your class online. You will receive a User Name and Password to enter your virtual classroom.

How Do You Communicate?
You--and others in your online class--communicate with your instructor by e-mail anytime during the day or night. You may seek clarification, respond to questions raised, or introduce other matters. Your classmates may participate in e-mail communications with your professor and, likewise, you may engage in discussions launched by others. Should you wish, you may discuss things with your instructor privately by e-mail. You may also communicate with your online classmates without your instructor "listening in."

What About Exams?
Your instructor will indicate what is required--whether you will be asked to answer quizzes or take other examinations--all online. For some courses, you may be asked to submit reports, results of research, or other documents--also all delivered online by e-mail, some with attached files. Some exams may be proctored.

Participate in Collaborative Learning
WebCampus.Stevens is designed for professionals like you who are prepared to participate actively and meaningfully in collaborative education, together with superior online instructors and thoughtful "classmates." It is especially productive for those who want to acquire a command of a subject in order to make a strong contribution as a professional engineer or technical manager.

Are You at Ease with the Web? Do You Have a Good Command of English?
You'll also need to possess a comfortable familiarity with widely known and easily acquired Internet tools--e-mail, file transfer, and word processing. The courseware platform adopted by WebCampus.Stevens is the most widely used online learning environment around the world. By now, 3 million students like you have taken Web-based courses and have quickly learned to use the system with little or no difficulty. Apart from basic knowledge of the Web, you'll need to be at ease with English so that you can participate effectively in courses conducted entirely in English.

Doing Well as a Distance Learner
If you are a committed professional and you possess basic Web skills and a fairly good command of English, you have all that's needed to do well as a distance learner. Being out of town, out of state, or even out of the country, is now not a barrier to taking high-quality professional courses.
