To participate in online e-Seminars, you will need to have access
to hardware and software with these minimum features.
- Computer
It is strongly recommended that you have either a
Pentium-class personal computer running on Windows
95 or Windows 98 or a Power Macintosh running System
7.5 or later. Your machine should have at least 16MB
RAM. It is also highly recommended that you have access
to a computer to which you can logon at your leisure,
anytime, at your own pace. It is not recommended that
you rely on access to computers not available to you
24 hours a day, 7 days a week, such as those you may
be able to use at work, at a library, or other facility
where you may not be able to logon whenever you wish.
Some companies may have Internet firewalls that will
prevent you from accessing WebCampus.Stevens from
your computer at work.

- Internet Connection
You will need to acquire your own account with a local
Internet Service Provider (ISP), permitting you to
use SSL connections through Port 443. You will be
responsible for securing your ISP account and may
want to check with your ISP that the above connection
is possible before joining them. Communication charges
you receive will be your responsibility to pay separately;
such charges are not included in your online course
tuition or fees.

- Modem
You will need a 28.8 kbps modem or higher.

- e-Mail
address
You will need to open an e-mail account and acquire
an e-mail address that you can access anytime.
Students with MSN e-mail
accounts: WebCT courses do not operate with MSN e-mail
accounts. Please use other e-mail accounts until further
notice.

- Browser
Your browser should support attachments such as Netscape
Navigator (4.08 or higher but NOT 6) or
Microsoft's
Internet Explorer (4.x or higher but NOT
5.5 - Service Pack 1). Some courses may require more
recent browser software and additional plug-ins. Your
instructor will inform you about which browser version
is preferable and where to go to purchase or download
it at no charge.
AOL's browser is not fully compatible with WebCT.
Some of WebCT's features do not function properly
when using AOL's browser, the e-learning platform
used by WebCampus students. But if you already have
it installed; please follow these instructions.
You will need to download either the Netscape or
Internet Explorer browser and install it on your
machine. You should then connect to the Internet
using AOL. Once you are online, you should minimize
the AOL window and connect to WebCT using the other
browser.
Please avoid Netscape 6, Internet Explorer 5.5
(Service Pack 1) and AOL which are experiencing
problems with WebCT.
Browser Tuneup
Some browsers may require conversion in order to act as WebCT
tools. To tuneup your browser, click
here.

- Word Processing
To send documents to your instructor and other
students as email attachments, you will need current
versions of Word or Word Perfect.

- Other Software
Your instructor will indicate whether you may
be required to purchase or download other software
in order to participate effectively in online courses.
